After failing to secure any points against Spain in a 2-0 defeat earlier last week (October 12), the Scots were able to secure their place on the European stage after Spain beat Norway 1-0, confirming a top-two finish in Group A.

Porteous will aim to be involved in Scotland’s Euro 2024 campaign next summer, with his national team having reached back-to-back European Championships for the first time since the 1992 and 1996 tournaments.

The Watford centre-half has played a crucial part in a qualification process that included a five-match winning run, keeping four clean sheets and scoring in a 3-0 victory over Cyprus.

Scotland will now face France in Lille (October 17, 8pm BST KO) in an international friendly to conclude the break.

In Group H, Jamal Lewis featured for Northern Ireland for the first time since March as they ended a run of five consecutive defeats with a 3-0 victory over San Marino.

The full-back helped fire his national side into an early lead, assisting Paul Smyth’s superb opener before Northern Ireland were able to see the game out comfortably with a further two goals.

Michael O’Neill’s side will hope to maintain their momentum as they prepare to face Slovenia tomorrow evening (October 17, 7.45pm BST KO) in qualifying action.

Giorgi Chakvetadze featured for the Georgian national team as they beat Cyprus 4-0 in Tbilisi on Sunday (October 15), securing their second win of their Euro 2024 qualification campaign.

The Hornets midfielder played provider for his side’s second goal with Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia finishing the move, taking Georgia’s points tally to seven in Group A.

Elsewhere, Edo Kayembe made a cameo appearance during DR Congo’s 1-1 draw with New Zealand in an international exhibition contest in Spain. The midfielder could potentially face Angola (October 17, 4pm BST KO) in another friendly tomorrow.
