And they scored in the final play to ensure ten match points from their trip to South Africa as they crank up the defence of their URC crown.

Munster built up a 23-6 lead in the opening half, with Jack Crowley building a 9-0 lead in the opening quarter with three penalties from distance on the right wing.

Munster were strong in defence and kept their line intact as Lions went to the corners with a number of penalties.

Jordan Hendrikse pulled back a penalty for the Lions after 27 minutes before Munster got in for the opening try six minutes from the break when Jack O’Donoghue scored after a lineout take by Pete O’Mahony and an excellent drive from the pack.

Crowley added the conversion and after Hendrikse pulled back a penalty, Munster struck for a penalty try just before the interval when Simon Zebo was tackled without the ball as he chased it towards the line.

Lions captain Maurius Louw was yellow-carded for the offence as Munster went in leading 23-6.

Shane Daly got Munster’s third try in the left corner after being set up by Gavin Coombes after 48 minutes.

The Lions pulled back a try 14 minutes later when replacement hooker PJ Botha scored, but it was Munster who had the final say when a well-worked move off a lineout ended with Coombes securing the bonus point in the final play.
