Budget 2025 will be delivered on Tuesday, October 1, the Finance Minister has confirmed.

Jack Chambers told RTÉ's Morning Ireland this was the "natural date" for the Budget — even though it is one week earlier than usual.

He also denied that an early Budget would mean an early general election.

"We have to prepare budgetary and fiscal framework for October 15. We are absolutely committed to running the full term as a Government.

"The fact it is one week different from last year is really of very little difference in the context of the social welfare bill and the finance bill, which will conclude at the end of November or early December."

It comes as Mr Chambers said on Wednesday that this year’s budget will be “tighter” than previous years.

Mr Chambers said he is keen to get back to a more “regular” budgetary environment than what was previously rolled out during the covid-19 pandemic and high levels of inflation.

He said he wants to strengthen living standards and support for householders and families who are still under pressure from the rise in inflation in recent years.
