Adam Idah will head to Scotland for a medical ahead of his move to Celtic from Norwich City after the two clubs finally agreed on a fee for the Cork native.

Idah had a spell on loan with the Scottish side last season and earned himself hero status by scoring the winning goal in the Scottish Cup final win over Rangers.

He returned to Norwich, after a spell of international duty with John O’Shea’s Ireland squad for pre-season but a move away was expected.

The Cork native then drew the ire of Norwich fans by missing a flight to Austria for a pre-season camp which led to a reprimand from City’s boss Johannes Hoff Thorup as he was left out of the squad for a friendly with Hoffenheim.

Idah was involved with Norwich for the start of the Championship season, playing 30 minutes as a sub in 2-0 loss away to newly-promoted Oxford United on Saturday, but his long-term future at Carrow Road was unclear.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was keen to bring Idah back on a permanent basis after that successful loan spell but the clubs could not agree on a fee.

But the Eastern Daily Press reported today that a fee of £8.5million had finally been settled on, Norwich also asking for a 15% cut of the fee if Idah is sold on and that Idah was headed to Glasgow for a medical and to discuss personal terms.

Idah faces a battle to get into the Celtic side as he started just five times in 15 league appearances last season, scoring nine goals as well as the winner in that Old Firm Cup final.

The Bhoys have won their opening two games of the league season on a 6-0 aggregate scoreline, Nicolas Kuhn scoring in both matches but Rodgers is eager to improve his squad for the Champions League tests to come.

Idah said the move to Celtic had revived his career after a tough time at Norwich where he said he had been made a “scapegoat” for wider issues at the club.

“I just think the fans and the media, it felt that anything I was doing was wrong. If I scored a goal, it wasn't as good as the last time. If I didn't play minutes, I'm not good enough. Just stuck in that hole, it probably happens everyone in football, not just me. It was just unfortunate that I was in it at that period,” he said.

“For me going to that new environment was unbelievable for me and to have everyone behind you and supporting you is probably what I needed.

“I struggled a bit at Norwich, probably on the back end of a lot of things, with the way the team was going and I was probably the scapegoat to that. Going to Celtic really brightened it up for me and gave me a lot of confidence.”
