ÉIST Cancer Support Centre has received an award of €34,500, from the third annual AIB Community €1 Million Fund to help with its work in cancer care in the Carlow community.

Earlier this year, AIB asked its customers, the wider public and staff to again nominate registered charities that connect with causes that matter most to them and their communities.

Speaking about receipt of the award, Lorna McGrath, service manager of Éist, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from the AIB Community €1 Million Fund, which is vital for maintaining the services we offer to people affected by cancer in our community. AIB's ongoing support for local organisations is extremely important and we have seen the positive impact on other local groups that have previously received funding.

“Having the support of the public, as well as Carlow AIB employees through the nomination process make this particularly special for us. It’s incredible because it shows that our efforts in the community are being acknowledged and we are making a difference,” said Lorna.

“I want to thank everyone who is involved in Éist cancer support centre and a special thanks to AIB for supporting our community and setting up this fund. Thank you to our local AIB teams, in particular branch managers Heidi Sutton and Elaine Byrne, who have been so supportive,” said Lorna.

Eist offers emotional support and practical help to anyone affected by cancer in a confidential and relaxed environment.

“The AIB Community €1 Million Fund will greatly help our organisation to build additional therapy rooms in order to increase capacity for core services and meet the demand for our cancer services.

This fund will also contribute to upskilling and developing our team of existing and new staff and volunteers, enhance digital infrastructure and expand our service delivery to our current and future vulnerable clients,” added Lorna.

Over the last two years, the AIB Community €1 Million Fund has supported over 150 charities across Ireland. Earlier this year, AIB asked its customers, the wider public, and staff to again nominate registered charities, that connect with causes that matter most to them and their communities, in the AIB Community €1 Million Fund.

To those charities chosen by the customers and wider public, AIB is allocating €700,000 across the four provinces and a separate category for charities in the greater Dublin area, while €300,000 will be donated to charities chosen by employees
