Heart’s Ann Wilson just got candid about a serious health journey she’s experienced. The “Barracuda” and “Alone” singer revealed on Instagram that she had surgery to remove something that turned out to be cancerous.
“I’m feeling great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy & I've decided to do it,” the 74-year-old said.
With that, Ann said that her doctors recommend that she takes the rest of the year off from performing “in order to full recover.”
Unfortunately, Heart had planned the Royal Flush Tour, which was supposed to kick off on July 30 and run through December. Ann’s diagnosis and treatment means the tour will need to be postponed.
“To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs," Ann said. "Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025. My team is getting those details sorted & we’ll let you know the plan as soon as we can.”
She ended on this note: “This is merely a pause. I’ve much more to sing. Respectfully, this is the last public statement I’d like to make on the matter.”
Worth noting: Kate Middleton also revealed that she was having “preventative chemotherapy” after her cancer diagnosis.
This is usually done because doctors assume that there may be cancer cells that weren’t removed during surgery—chemotherapy provides an added layer of defense, Jack Jacoub, MD, a board certified medical oncologist and hematologist and medical director of the MemorialCare Cancer Institute, previously told Women’s Health.
Heart also posted about Ann’s diagnosis on the band’s official Instagram page, writing that the tour was postponed “due to medical reasons.” Fans are also being asked to hold onto their tickets, which will be honored for rescheduled dates.
In late May, Heart canceled its scheduled European performances, noting that Ann was undergoing a “time sensitive but routine medical procedure” with a six-week recovery time.
“I’m okay! Please don’t worry,” Ann wrote in the comments at the time. “I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. It’s certainly an inconvenience for me.”
