Michael Owen has been impressed with how Arne Slot has carried himself since becoming Liverpool head coach in the summer.
Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield hot seat earlier this year, and most football fans expected Liverpool to have to go through a transitional period following the departure of the Reds' iconic former boss.
But the team has actually improved under Slot, starting the season in record-breaking fashion. Slot has presided over 15 victories in 17 matches in all competitions — a record unmatched in Premier League history.
And Owen thinks the control with which Slot manages has been key to the team's early success. Owen told Premier League Productions: “He’s impressive isn’t he [Arne Slot]? He looks in control. I like his demeanour. He’s not trying to be Jurgen Klopp.
I heard blunt Kyle Walker and Pep Guardiola messages that say it all about huge Liverpool chance Trent Alexander-Arnold injury latest as Arne Slot offers update on Liverpool ace - 'Always serious'“He’s cool, he’s calculated, he’s classy, he looks like he’s in control and so does this Liverpool team at the moment. I know it’s early in the season but that little gap they’ve opened up now, they’re getting very excited already.”
Liverpool moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday, with goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah downing Aston Villa at Anfield.
Manchester City was beaten 2-1 by Brighton earlier in the day, and City's recent struggles have seen belief among supporters rise that Liverpool could end the season with a second Premier League trophy in six seasons.
Slot, however, is keeping his feet firmly on the ground. He said: "If you win, it mostly doesn’t get better than that and yeah, you know if you win the amount of games we do, you can be ahead [in the league table]. It’s not sure yet in this league because Arsenal, City, Chelsea, all these clubs that are playing in this league, they are able to win so many games as well and that’s what they have shown in the last few seasons. So, we are only focussed on ourselves and then a win against a very good team like Villa, who have done so well in the last few years, is always important."
