One man released without charge in Ballina fatal assault investigation

Gardaí investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a male in his late 50s following an incident in Ballina, County Mayo, on Wednesday, 23rd October, 2024 have released one man from custody.

The man who was found dead at a residential property in Ballina has been named locally as John Casserly.
Two individuals, both males in their late 20s and early 30s, were arrested in connection with the incident
The man, aged in his 20s has since been released without charge from the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The second man arrested, aged in his 30s remains in Garda custody detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
