Nine people are due in court this morning charged in connection with protests at an asylum centre in Ballyogan in south Dublin.

The ongoing protests are related to the housing of asylum seekers at a facility on the Ballyogan Road, which saw buses containing international protection applicants turned away after being denied access to the site.

Five men and four women were detained by gardaí and stand accused of public order offences. All nine are due before Dún Laoghaire District Court this morning.

It brings to 13 the number of people charged in connection with alleged offences at the Ballyogan site in the last two days.

Earlier on Wednesday, May 22, four men were arrested for public order offences at the same location.

They were all charged and appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, yesterday afternoon.

A statement from an Garda Siochána said that an officer was injured during the course of the earlier incident and received medical treatment.
