Barry McGuigan donates to Donegal Christmas toy appeal ...

A BALLYBOFEY man is asking people across the county to donate towards a Christmas toy appeal to ensure as many children as possible will wake up to a gift this December 25.
Hundreds of children have benefited from Eunan Devenney’s annual appeal which has been running for close to 25 years.
“It started with a couple of kids struggling to get accommodation for Christmas and it has grown every year,” Eunan said.
This year 65 children in social worker care in Donegal will benefit from the appeal.
The recipients range from the youngest, a new-born baby to the eldest who are teenagers.
“No matter how tough life is, it is important children can celebrate Christmas,” he added.
Each year Eunan is blown away by people’s generosity.
He told the Donegal News he was “humbled” when former professional boxer Barry McGuigan went out of his way to donate to the appeal before heading into the jungle as a contestant on ‘I’m a Celebrity’.
He also thanked Lafferty’s Coaches who transport the bus load of toys to the Tusla office every year.
Eunan, who is also a former professional boxer, says the appeal is something he looks forward to every year because he gets to do it with the help of his three sons, Nial, Cathair and Séan. They advise him on what toys to choose and assist on the delivery.
If you wish to donate toys or toy vouchers to the appeal contact Eunan on 0877684073 before December 12 to arrange collection.
