Bayern Munich renews youngster Younes Aitamer despite ACL injury
Bayern Munich have announced via their official website that they have renewed the contract of Younes Aitamer. The 21-year-old German-Algerian dual citizen is a part of Bayern II, the Bavarians’ U-23 team, but an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in the Regionalliga match against 1. FC Schweinfurt has seen him ruled out since March of 2024. Nevertheless, Bayern saw it fit to renew the talented midfielder. Bayern Campus director Jochen Sauer explains why:
“Younes was about to take the next step in his development, but was then slowed down by the cruciate ligament injury. With this contract extension, we want to express our full support to him and also give him the time he needs to return to his old level of performance. We wish him all the best on his way back to the pitch.”
This follows a recent trend of Bayern renewing young players like Moritz Mosandl and Gabriel Maršić stricken with long term injuries, with the intent to show them support during such a difficult period in their professional career. On one hand it is a very welcome gesture, but on the other one does start to ask why the club is dealing with so many long term injuries.
