Man dies following shooting in Blanchardstown
It happened as families were dining at a restaurant on Christmas Eve.
A man in his 20s has died following a gun attack in Blanchardstown.
It happened at around 8pm on Sunday 24th December, Christmas Eve at a restaurant on the Main Street.
Two men were rushed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital.
One of them, a man aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.
A second man, in his 40s, is being treated for gunshot wounds and is in a serious condition.
The Irish Sun reports the man have been shot in the neck.
It also reports the gunman may have used a submachine gun in the attack.
The scene has been preserved for a technical exam and the State Pathologist has been notified.
The Irish Times reports that the incident may have been a botched gangland attack.
A Garda spokesperson said "Gardaí are investigating an incident that occurred at premises on the Main Street in Blanchardstown Dublin 15, Sunday, 24th December 2023.
"Gardaí and emergency services personnel were alerted to the incident at around 8pm.
"Two males were later taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital to receive medical treatment.
"One of these males, aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased in hospital a short time afterwards.
"A second man, aged in his 40s, is receiving treatment for gunshot wounds and is in a serious condition.
"The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested," they added.
