Bodkin Stars Recall Having To 'Wet The Roads' Of West Cork

A complaint we rarely have in Ireland is that it’s too dry, but the team behind the new Netflix series, Bodkin, have shared that it was a pretty warm summer leading them to ‘wet the roads’ to make it look like it was more miserable weather-wise.

When chatting to Geek Ireland, stars Siobhan Cullen, Robyn Cara and Will Forte explained that while they were expecting the usual gloomy Irish weather, this time, they had the opposite problem.

Even though it was supposed to be dreary, wet and gloomy, when they moved to West Cork, there was a heatwave leading the production team to spray water on the roads to make it look like it had just been lashing.

Siobhan explained: ‘Do you know we actually had a heatwave in while we were shooting in West Cork, and I think for maybe the first time ever on a production in Ireland, we had to wet down the roads in between our takes.

‘Because the weather was meant to be kind of wet and rainy, but we had blue skies 25 degree heat.’

Will then added: ‘We had problematically good weather.’

When speaking to the Irish Mail on Sunday, Will added that he got acquainted with some Irish traditions, and that he and The Young Offenders star Chris Walley ‘would go jumping in Vico baths [in Killiney] or the 40 Foot [in Dún Laoghaire] all the time’, while the series was shooting on the east coast.

‘I never got stung by a jellyfish so maybe my attitude would be different if I had,’ the MacGruber star continued. 

‘But there’s just something about sitting in there… Even in, like, November when the weather was noticeably colder we’d go in there for 10 minutes and you’d get out and just feel like Superman.’
