The comedy, which stars Brendan as the Brown family matriarch, has debuted on Britbox, a US streaming service that has shows from the UK and Ireland, earlier this year — with him expecting to do live shows in several US cities in the near future.

Speaking on Mrs Brown’s Boys making its TV debut over a decade ago, Brendan added that while he understands that his show could be replaced, he believes that the show is ‘peaking’ in popularity, citing his inspiration Benny Hill as the reason for its longevity.

‘I think we have tapped into that Benny Hill element,’ Brendan told the Irish Sun. ‘Comedy got to a stage where it got very clever. It became opinionated and very personal instead of being funny. One of the things that made Mrs Brown successful was that we tapped into an audience that comedy left behind . . .  so it doesn’t worry me.

‘But if some young buck comes along and has a new show and pushes us off the scene, that’s the way the business goes. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. But right now, I think that Mrs Brown is peaking rather than being the old thing.’

Brendan is also set to take the Mrs Brown’s Live Show nationwide for the first time in over 10 years — with shows in Derry, Kerry, Galway, Belfast and Dublin all set for November 2024.

‘I’m excited because I’m going back to theatres I haven’t played for so long,’ Brendan said. ‘After the pandemic, people need a laugh and by Jesus, I’m going to give it to them.’

Brendan recently opened up about his family’s Christmas traditions ahead of the latest Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special this year, saying that the entire family-based cast head to their home in Dublin where they all wear Christmas pyjamas for the big day.

‘We have a tradition that the family and some of the cast, especially the Ireland-based cast, all get into pyjamas and wherever they are they drive over to our house,’ he told the Mirror.

‘And we all sit in our pyjamas watching the Christmas special on Christmas night, and Jenny [his wife who plays Cathy in the show] and I of course watch it like that. But it becomes a pyjama party and it’s a lovely night.

‘It has become very much a part of our Christmas and I think it’s become very much a part of a lot of people’s Christmas, kind of like Morecambe and Wise was for me.’
