Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken feared he was going to be the villain of the piece after gifting Sheffield Wednesday an equaliser in their Carabao Cup tie.
The Bees were leading through Kevin Schade's early goal when Flekken caught a corner and quickly threw the ball out.
Unfortunately for the Dutchman, it was intercepted by Owls winger Djeidi Gassama, who strode forward and drove home from 25 yards to take the match to penalties.
But Flekken more than made amends when he saved Liam Palmer's spot-kick as Brentford won the shoot-out 5-4 to reach the quarter-finals.
"There's the other side of the game, for some time I thought I was going to be at the other end, at the bottom," he said.
"After claiming that cross, I saw an opportunity to go quick and made the wrong choice, and then we all know what happened, he hit it very well and puts it in and equalises.
"The moment where I made the mistake gave them the momentum and all of a sudden, it was an open game. I am just very happy that I could turn it around at the end.
"After going into the wrong corner for the first two penalties, I came closer after every penalty. I was really happy, even if you don't see me smile, to make that decisive save at the end."
Owls coach Chris Powell was conspicuous by his absence from the touchline at the Gtech Stadium, but he had a decent excuse.
The former Charlton and England defender, 55, was at Windsor Castle receiving an MBE for his services to football.
"I think he'll send a picture," smiled boss Danny Rohl. "It's good for him, he's done an outstanding job off the pitch with all his activities, and he deserves it."
