On the latest Sporticast episode, hosts Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams discuss some of the biggest sports business stories of the week, including the upcoming NBA draft. Typically the pre-draft chatter revolves around the top pick, but this year the story may be Bronny James, the 19-year-old son of LeBron James.

LeBron has said he’d like to play with his son before he retires, a comment that has many NBA teams viewing Bronny in a new light. While every prospect is evaluated beyond just his on-court talent, Bronny presents a hypothetical rarely seen in professional sports. NBA teams have to consider what they think about him as a player, but also whether he might help lure LeBron James in the future, or serve as a valuable trade asset with a team looking to make LeBron happy. It’s possible to argue that his current off-court value out-strips the on-court value.

Semi-related, the hosts answer a trivia question: How many sons of NBA players were in the league this season?

Next the hosts talk about the NHL. The Florida Panthers just won their first Stanley Cup, continuing a recent run of dominance by Florida teams. The league’s 10-year Fanatics jersey deal also just kicked in. The hosts talk about how Fanatics, scarred by the Nike-MLB uniform fiasco, went to extraordinary lengths to debut the jerseys with support from the sport’s biggest names. There were seven NHL All-Stars quoted in the embargoed press release, with six others specifically mentioned as having tested the jerseys, including Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, Connor Bedard and Nikita Kucherov.

Lastly the hosts talk about the end of the Arizona Coyotes as we know it, and Alex Morgan being left off the USWNT roster for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.
