Bundesliga 2023/24: A 10-year comparison of Harry Kane's goals ...

Harry Kane might not win any trophy at Bayern Munich this season. This is not a statement that many people, including the 30-year-old himself, expected to make, but it is what it is.

The German champions are seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who remain unbeaten throughout the season at the time of writing. The Germans are already out of the other cup competitions but remain in the Champions League. For Kane, however, in terms of individual performances and records broken, this season will already be one to remember.

The visualisation below shows the top scorer along with the number of goals they scored in the last 10 Bundesliga seasons. It was written after the completion of Hoffenheim vs Stuttgart in Matchweek 26.

Harry Kane, with 31 goals in his first season in the Bundesliga, looks well on course to break Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a season. Lewandowski, now playing for Barcelona, achieved that feat during the 2020/21 season and before he moved to the Catalan giants, the Polish striker had finished as the top scorer of Germany’s top flight for five straight campaigns from 2017/18 to 2021/22. During this period, he scored 29 goals in 2017/18, 22 in 2018/19, 34 in 2019/20, and 35 in 2021/22.

Niclas Füllkrug’s tally of 16 goals last season at Werder Bremen was the lowest total from a top scorer in the last 10 seasons, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished as the top scorer of 2016/17 with 31 goals—one more than Robert Lewandowski, who was the top scorer with 30 in 2015/16. With 19 goals, Alexander Meier finished as the top scorer in 2014/15.
