Saul Canelo Alvarez remains as Super Middleweight Absolute World Champion, by retaining yesterday Saturday the four titles of the World Boxing Council (WBC), the World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF), by defeating the British John Ryder by unanimous decision.
Canelo Alvarez dominated the fight from start to finish against Ryder and did not allow him to adapt to his boxing style in the ring, causing him a fractured and bleeding nose and several cuts on his face very early in the fight.
The result and the beating he received did not affect his judgment.Even though he ended up with a broken nose for the first time in his career, visited the canvas three times and lost by a wide unanimous decision, the British fighter assures that for the Mexican champion the best moment of his career has passed and that he is now in decline.
"He was very good, I think he's past his prime, but he still had enough in the tank tonight," Ryder mentioned in a press conference at the end of the fight.
"Why do I think he was past his prime? Because he couldn't finish me. His plan was to stop me and knock me out and he didn't do it. I know I took a good punch in the fifth round, but I recovered and put in some good rounds after that," commented "The Gorilla" despite the fact that during the fight it seemed only a matter of time before the knockout was delivered or the judge made the decision to stop the fight.
Best pound-for-pound and round for roundCanelo's dominance was reflected in the judges' scorecards, two judges did not even give the Englishman an episode. John Ryder lost the fight by unanimous decision 118-109, 120-107 and 118-109.
With this result, Canelo shows his dominance and remains undefeated in his fights against British opponents by going 8-0, with 5 wins by knockout and 3 by decision, including this last one.
