In a poignant and emotional ceremony, Captain Anshuman Singh was on Friday posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award. The honor was presented by President Droupadi Murmu and accepted by his wife, Smriti Singh. “I would die with a brass on my chest. I would not die an ordinary death,” recalled a heartbroken yet proud Smriti, reflecting on the words of her husband.
In a deeply moving ceremony, Smriti stood with her mother-in-law, Manju Singh, by her side. Wearing a white saree that symbolized both her grief and resilience, she accepted the Kirti Chakra from President Droupadi Murmu. The ceremony was a solemn occasion to honour Capt. Anshuman Singh’s bravery and sacrifice.
