Carol Royle tragically lost her husband Julian in a freak accident earlier this month.

She shared that he had planned to go swimming at the time and didn’t realise the temperature of the pool when he sadly passed.

People will recognise the actress from her recent appearances in Coronation Street. She joined the soap earlier this year as Anthea Deering, the mother of established character Joel Deering.

How old is Carol and where is he from?

Carol was born on 10 February 1954, making her 70 years old. She is originally from Blackpool in Lancashire, England.

She studied drama at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

She is the daughter of British actor Derek Royle, who starred in the Beatles' film Magical Mystery Tour and alongside Cilla Black in the film Work Is a Four-Letter Word.

He also starred in popular comedy films such as 1973’s Tiffany Jones, 1974’s Don't Just Lie There, Say Something! and Confessions of a Sex Maniac.

Carol’s sister Amanda also worked as an actress for a time. She appeared in several television dramas including Agatha Christie's Poirot, Campion, Rosemary & Thyme and Bulman. She completed an MA in integrative counselling and psychotherapy and later became a psychotherapist.

She made her acting debut in The Cedar Tree. She starred in 45 episodes between 1977 to 1978.

She later played Jenny Russell in the BBC sitcom Life Without George that ran for three series from 1987 to 1989.

She also portrayed Austin Healey-driving Lady Patricia Brewster in four episodes of Heartbeat.

There are a long list of TV shows that Carol acted in over the years, including Bergerac, The Bill, Doctors, Father Brown, The Outsider, Casualty and more.

Between 2019 to 2023, she portrayed Mrs Bright in the Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour for five episodes.

Marriage

Carol was married for 47 years to musician Julian Spear, who was the son of actor Bernard Spear and dancer Mary Logan. They tied the knot in 1977.

The couple welcomed two children, Taran, who is a drummer in the band Anonymous Tip, and Talitha.

Carol shared that her husband tragically died in a freak swimming pool accident.

The actress wrote: “I am desperately sorry to post that we lost my wonderful husband, Julian Spear, today, December 9. Perfectly fit man but jumped into a freezing outdoor pool which he assumed was heated as per usual yesterday, and he developed a sudden massive brain haemorrhage. Our hearts are aching.”

She added: “Married 47 years known each other 56. Forgive me if I am not on Facebook very much for a while.”
