Castlebar Celtic strolled to the top of the Mayo Super League with a nine-goal win over a gallant Conn Rangers side that tried but had had no answer for their hosts’ sheer quality and finishing.

Jason Hunt had one of the best displays of his life out on the wing for Celtic. He took on and beat numerous Rangers players and scored twice as Celtic continued their unbeaten run in the Mayo Super League. It is July 2022, since they last lost a game in the Super League.

Rangers had one shot in the first half, which didn’t trouble Stefan Hester. The Celtic ‘keeper made three good saves in the second half as Rangers pushed forward looking for something. All they got, however, was a hiding, from the most in-form team in Mayo.

Oran Groarke, Dylan Edwards and Luke Kelly also scored two apiece, with Jordan Loftus getting the remaining goal.

Celtic went in three up at the break and capitalised on every mistake Rangers made in the second half.

They play Salthill Devon in the Connacht Cup semi-final next Sunday.

Full report, images and reaction will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News Sport.
