Celtic vs Aberdeen as it happened

Wow. Just wow.
It was a battle for the ages at Celtic Park as Aberdeen came back from two goals down to seal a 2-2 draw in the game of the season so far. Much was made about the Premiership's top two, both with 100 per cent records, going head to head. But it initially appeared the champions would cruise it, Reo Hatate and Kyogo putting them two up at half-time.
But it was an almighty false dawn. Jimmy Thelin turned to Ester Sokler and Duk at the break and inspired a comeback the travelling Aberdeen faithful will remember forever. It was the Estonian striker's crisp finish from the edge of the box that sparked hope, and after Graeme Shinnie's deflected finish equalised, there were huge celebrations.
Aberdeen thought they were in dreamland when Duk appeared to nick it but VAR spotted a handball in the buildup. And Celtic also thought they had won it at the end, Adam Idah's goal ruled out for a foul on Dimitar Mitov.
A thrilling finale hit fever pitch with two Celtic penalty claims. First Luke McCowan went down but the foul was deemed outside the box. Then from the resulting stramash, there were shouts of handball on Duk - but VAR told Nick Walsh there was nothing in it, and he blew the final whistle instead.

Ice cool Jimmy Thelin insists he is still not getting carried away with Aberdeen's superb start to the season after the Dons staged a stunning second half comeback to earn a point in a pulsating 2-2 draw with Celtic at Parkhead.
The visitors found themselves 2-0 down within 27 minutes courtesy of goals from Reo Hatate and Kyogo but fought back to claim a share of the spoils thanks to half time substitute Ester Sokler and influential skipper Graeme Shinnie. While the hosts bombarded Aberdeen in search of a winner in a manic last 10 minutes, the Reds had some big chances themselves, with striker Duk seeing a goal chalked off by VAR for a handball. Dimitar Mitov was kept busy while Cape Verde international Duk also cleared one off the line for his team in the final minute of injury time.

Brendan Rodgers reckons it is "very early" to be branding Aberdeen as title challengers - as the Celtic boss named the "luxury" Jimmy Thelin has that he is missing.
The hosts raced into a first half lead thanks to goals from Reo Hatate and Kyogo, but the Hoops succumbed to the Dons in the second half as Ester Sokler pulled a goal back before Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie saw his effort deflect beyond Kasper Schmeichel and into the net. Both side saw their perfect records in the Scottish Premiership apart - and while it's Celtic that hold onto top spot on goal difference it's Jimmy Thelin's men that will happier with the point as they travel back to the Granite City.
Speaking to BBC Sportsound after the game, Rodgers was reminded that he previously didn't brand the Pittodrie side title contenders having not faced off against them so far this term. And he was quizzed on if he had seen a "good team" battle back in Glasgow's east end.

17:13KEY EVENT
It could have been the winner for the Dons - but VAR stepped in.
Was it the right call?

A bonkers last couple of minutes saw Aberdeen survive by the skin of their teeth to claim a huge point at Parkhead.
Dimitar Mitov produced a stunning save before striker Duk got himself back on the goaline to somehow keep it out.
VAR was called into check whether the Cape Verde man had used his arm to divert it away from goal, but nothing was doing and the full-time whistle was blown.
17:06KEY EVENT
But there's no penalty given, and that's a wrap on a thrilling game!

Another VAR check for a possible Celtic penalty

THINGS! HAPPENING!
Mitov makes a save, Duk makes a block, Celtic want a penalty for handball!
Absolute chaos, bear with us.

Rubezic gets in the way - Celtic corner.

Bernardo, Idah and Kuhn all over it...
17:02Robbie Copeland
Luke McCowan goes down right on the edge of the box.
Free-kick given but VAR are getting the lines out...
17:00Robbie Copeland
At first viewing it looked like Kuhn's cross was right at him, but that is some save from Dimitar Mitov.
It took a touch right in front of him and he had a fraction of a second to adjust and get a fingertip to it.
Could be a huge save in the context of the season - and the title race?

Celtic have the ball in the net - but it's immediately ruled out!
Dimitar Mitov did appear to be impeded as Adam Idah headed it in and Nick Walsh comes to the keeper's rescue.
A big decision at this stage in the game but probably correct.
16:56Robbie Copeland
But once again it goes begging.
A cross from the right causes all sorts of chaos and it falls to Forrest at the back post.
He jinks inside to create a yard of space and Luke McCowan is audibly screaming for it in space.
But he shoots with his left and drags it wide.
16:53Robbie Copeland
Settle back into your seats everybody!
A cheer goes up around Celtic Park as the board goes up for stoppage time - ten added minutes for someone to find a winner.
16:48Robbie Copeland
And literally as I type the last update, Celtic break up the park through James Forrest who fires one straight at Mitov.
Get me a coffee - this is breathless.
16:48Robbie Copeland
Shayden Morris has a chance to nick it for Aberdeen on the break but he's shut down by Auston Trusty who blocks the shot.
It deflects back off Morris and it's out for a goal-kick.
16:45Robbie Copeland
There's tension in the air here - an unfamiliar feeling at Parkhead this season.
Aberdeen have rattled the cage of the champions and we're in for some finale.
16:41Robbie Copeland
And we're not really any closer to finding a winner here.
A clash for the ages that either team could still nick.
A great advert for Scottish football that really should be televised.

16:36Robbie Copeland
Amid the bedlam there, Brendan Rodgers managed to get a sub on, Adam Idah on for Kyogo.
16:34KEY EVENT
VAR intervenes - no goal and an indirect Celtic free-kick.
A tangible sigh of relief around Celtic Park there. Aberdeen aren't happy but it's back to 2-2.
16:33Robbie Copeland
For handball in the buildup...
16:32KEY EVENT
Oh my word! Stuff of dreams for Aberdeen as Duk puts the Dons in front!
16:29Robbie Copeland
So often when these games are given the big build-up, they fail to deliver.
Not so much at Parkhead.
What a game we've had and it's a long way from finished yet.
On the balance of play, it could yet go either way.
16:26Robbie Copeland
ON: Paulo Bernardo, James Forrest
OFF: Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda
16:25Robbie Copeland
If Aberdeen get something here then the scenes after that equaliser will live long in the Pittodrie side's memory.
Relief and jubilation, and the first real sense that they might actually be capable of going toe to toe with the champions.
A thoroughly engaging 25 minutes ahead.
16:23KEY EVENT
Oh my word, what a fightback!
Scenes in the away end as Graeme Shinnie's deflected effort finds its way in!
It comes from Daizen Maeda losing the ball cheaply. Great work from Keskinen to drive forward and it comes back to Shinnie, whose powerful effort deflects past Kasper Schmeichel.
We're all square and it's game on!
16:20Robbie Copeland
Topi Keskinen drives in from the left and has Duk free and waiting for the cross.
But the winger decides to go himself - and his effort is blocked by Liam Scales.
Duk berates him for not making the pass but Sokler appears to indicate Duk should have given him the shout.
Whoever is to blame, it's a great chance gone begging.
16:18Robbie Copeland
He's had a couple of those already and Nilsen goes into the book for cynically bringing down Callum McGregor.
Nick Walsh signals it was far from his first and he'd seen enough.
16:16Robbie Copeland
That's Ester Sokler's tenth goal for Aberdeen - but, incredibly, his first in the league.
The Estonian was thrown on at half-time for his 29th appearance in the Scottish top flight.
And it's the first time he's hit the back of the net in the competition, his previous nine coming in cups and in Europe.
As good a time as any to break that duck!
