But the brutal nature of European football's top tournament leaves scars as the 6-0 pasting at the hands of Atletico Madrid proves.

Scottish football's dominant force are dab hands at putting Euro setbacks behind them in pursuit of domestic dominance but Barry Robson's Aberdeen bring true grit from the Granite City. Last Saturday they gutted out a Viaplay Cup semi final win over Hibs before hanging tough in the Black Hell to deny PAOK all three points.

And now Celtic know they must get back to basics and return to winning ways but they will do it with three cast-iron starters watching from the stands in Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada.

What a pasting!

Celtic's Luis Palma celebrates

Aberdeen have been rotten and Celtic dominant - the story of this fixture in recent years.

16:25KEY EVENT

GOAL! Oh makes it five

Palma doesn't score it but it was the brilliant winger again who creates it.

Oh was on hand from three yards out to score but it was all about the new hero of Parkhead who brings goals and assists every week.

16:22Graeme Young

Forrest skies O'Riley's perfect pass

A stunning loft from O'Riley is not reciprocated with a rushed finish with Forrest which was so wild it might have floored a steward in the Jock Stein upper.

16:20KEY EVENT

GOAL! Turnbull makes it 4-0

Celtic are strolling and Turnbull finds the net again from outside the box.

He catches Roos out by giving him the eyes from 20 yards out.

Another goal from Turnbull - three in his last three Premiership games.

16:19Graeme Young

Collum stuns Johnston

Jensen couldn't believe that was a goal kick and his shock was replicated by the right back as the referee pointed for a goal kick.

16:18Graeme Young

10 minutes added

We're not going anywhere sharply!

16:17Graeme Young

Celtic piling it on

And Aberdeen are on their knees.

This has been a skelping and 3-0 barely reflects the dominance of the champions.

16:12Graeme Young

Palma overcooks cross

A magic pass from Bernabei and the Honduran is quick to ask his three team-mates why they all made the same run.

Celtic are seeking more goals as Johnston scuffs an effort over after finding five yards of space.

16:11Graeme Young

Iwata on for McGregor

And is aiming to show his stuff.

16:06KEY EVENT

Perfect from Palma

That man again as the Honduran dances up to the kick before firing past Roos.

16:03KEY EVENT

GOAL!

Celtic get the call as MacKenzie late challenge has been adjudged to be a spot kick.

The Dutchman was up to no good before it was struck as he damaged the spot and then was booked by Collum for his hijinks.

Palma finishes from 12 yards out with aplomb.

16:02Graeme Young

Another penalty plea

Oh gets the shot off before MacKenzie catches him but there was contact.

A VAR check is underway.

John Beaton is poring over the footage at base camp.

15:58Graeme Young

Penalty claim waved away

Palma was certain Devlin handled it but his protestations to Willie Collum were met with a rubber ear.

Now Yang is down and we could be set for around 10 minutes added time at Parkhead.

15:56Graeme Young

Kyogo full story

Kyogo sparked serious concern when he went down after taking a blow to the head during their clash with Aberdeen - with medics immediately waved onto the field.

The Japan star was leading the line early in the second half with Celtic well in control of the game, Kyogo striking his eighth goal of the season shortly after Yang's opener. But just five minutes into the second half he went head-first into a collision with Slobodan Rubezic and took a sickening blow to the head.

Kyogo's head struck the Dons' defender's shoulder and there was immediate panic from his teammates who instantly gestured for the medical staff to come onto the pitch. After a stoppage for treatment, he was then helped off the pitch by club staff to be replaced by Oh as Brendan Rodgers took no chances. It remains to be seen how serious the injury is but the BBC's Kheredine Idessane said he looked 'extremely groggy' after being assisted on his way off the pitch and says he refused to shake Rubezic's hand.

15:50Graeme Young

The frightening moment Kyogo was poleaxed

Celtic's Matt O'Riley urges on the medical staff to treat Kyogo

You can see the sheer panic in his team-mates.

15:48Graeme Young

Miovski tests Hart

Clever flick from the talismanic Aberdeen striker who hasn't had a sniff today until then.

Devlin bullied Taylor and Miovski back-heeled an effort which was well stopped by the man capped 75 times by England.

15:46Graeme Young

Oh on it

The striker is choking for goals and his penalty appeal is waved away after Rubezic once again jumped in with his napper to tackle.

Yang is still thrilling everytime he touches the ball.

15:43Graeme Young

Rubezic booed

Celtic fans are het up after that wild tackle which left the Parkhead talisman dazed and confused.

15:41Graeme Young

Kyogo is ok

Scary scenes but the striker is off after the head knock and the crowd are delighted.

Oh replaces him and Turnbull is also on with the Japan striker and Holm exiting.

15:37KEY EVENT

Kyogo in a bad way

Frightening scenes as Kyogo is left in a horrid way as the medics race onto the pitch.

Rubezic is also down but that was reckless from the defender.

Kyogo's head thudded the ground on impact.

15:34Graeme Young

One Aberdeen tweak

A clutch of players breaking the halfway line, that's not something which happened much in the second half.

15:33Graeme Young

RESTART! We're back underway at Parkhead

Celtic get us back underway in Glasgow's east end.

15:32Graeme Young

What next for Aberdeen?

That was torture for fans of the team in red but how can they change it?

Palma and Co are ripping them to pieces and no obvious solution appears to be on hand to stem the bleeding.

No subs at the break as the status quo take the pitch for the second half.

15:19KEY EVENT

HALF TIME: Celtic 2 Aberdeen 0

Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi scores to make it 2-0

Luis Palma closes off a domniant first half with two late pops and it has been one way traffic.

The Honduran's wicked cross teed up Yang for the opener and it Kyogo on hand to make it 2-0.

This has been utter Celtic dominance with Aberdeen serving up a nightmare display so far. They are chasing shadows.

The Aberdeen boss is a top bloke and has been getting a tune in recent weeks but this has been a disheartening display for his side.

A second half act of defiance is a must or it could get messy.

15:15Graeme Young

Holm denied

Celtic are too much for Aberdeen and Holm's measured volley forces Roos into acrobatics.

Palma once again was brilliant in teeing up the chance.

Celtic are in fluid motion and Aberdeen are a tractor stuck on the A9.

15:11Graeme Young

Yang dazzles

A proper winger who is getting better every game.

Goals are great but it's the flicks and trick which mark him out as a proper player in the years to come.

The latest, an outrageous flick past Jensen has punters drooling as the audible gasps prove.

15:08Graeme Young

Who else?

Celtic's Kyogo celebrates his side's second

Scottish football's best striker cannot be stopped.

Only eight touches but one goal and four shots on goal. He's unique and the key reason Celtic are confident of a 12th title in 13 seasons.

15:06Graeme Young

Aberdeen are toiling

It's 10 men behind the ball but they cannot stop Celtic in any fashion.

Carter Vickers is down but not out as his sore one in a private area fades and he trudges back into central defence.
