Kyogo scores double but limps off in Celtic rout

Kyogo Furuhashi netted a double before limping off as champions Celtic rounded off a triumphant Scottish Premiership campaign with a rout of Aberdeen.

The Japanese struck twice before the break, but Celtic fans will be nervously waiting for an injury update with the Scottish Cup final looming next Saturday.

A powerful Carl Starfelt header made it three before an Oh Hyeon-gyu double put the finishing touches on a relentless trophy-day display for the hosts.

Aberdeen's third-place finish was already guaranteed pre-match, but their performance did not match their recent return to form under Barry Robson as they failed to register a shot on goal throughout the game.

Celtic came close to opening the scoring within 30 seconds as Kyogo latched onto the end of Alistair Johnston's threaded pass but his shot back across goal trickled wide of the far post.

That early chance, however, set the tone for a dominant display from the hosts with Kyogo taking a starring role in the opening 45.

Attack after attack followed for Postecoglou's side but the final pass often failed to materialise into a goalscoring opportunity.

Greg Taylor's pass then found Kyogo on the edge of the area who let it run across his body before checking back with a smart flick, leaving two trailing Aberdeen defenders in his wake. A smart, composed finish was then fired past Kelle Roos.

The league's current top goalscorer's quick-fire double was completed when Roos inexplicably palmed a fairly tame Callum McGregor strike into the path of the awaiting Kyogo, who was rewarded for not standing still as he lifted his strike over the dejected keeper.

After the interval Kyogo almost pounced on another error as Jack MacKenzie's back pass required Roos to rush out and slide in to clear the ball. In the process, the onrushing Celtic forward took a sore one and hobbled off.

A whipped Celtic corner was powered in by Starfelt off the underside of the bar after Jota's striker was ruled out for offside.

Oh followed Kyogo's first-half display as he contributed with a late second-half double in the final 10 minutes.

He nodded in on the end of Jota's dinked delivery into the six-yard box and he then slammed home after Jota's free-kick cracked off the bar, with Roos left stranded having dived for the initial set piece.

They hadn't won in their past three games, but with the title already wrapped up alarm bells were hardly ringing for Celtic.

This sort of performance, against on of the league's form sides prior to today, is the ideal jolt to the system ahead of their treble-deciding Scottish Cup final.

All of the usual stats fall in their favour, but Oh stepping in to replace Kyogo and scoring a double may be crucial for the final as former's limp was still evident in the post-match celebrations.

For Barry Robson's side it was a chastening afternoon after a revitalisation in their form and securing third-place.

No shots, less than 25% possession, and only 35 entries into the final third.

It doesn't impact their final placing, but they clearly need to bring it up a notch ahead of their European ventures.

What's next?

Celtic play in the Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday 3 June (17:30 BST).
