Celtic vs Dundee – LIVE updates

Tinkering has never been Brendan Rodgers' style but the next three fixtures could dictate the thinking of the Celtic boss against Dundee.

Aberdeen at Hampden in the League Cup semi final, Leipzig at home in a season-defining Champions League duel and Kilmarnock on plastic are a trio of fixtures which will reveal plenty about the type of season it will be.

Tony Docherty's Dark Blues are no mugs, of course, but a run of five defeats in their last six shows where they are currently at. Is this a night to lean on fringe faces for Rodgers? It may well be the plan of attack with Luke McCowan being given a start against his former team.

Celtic have been a juggernaut in recent months and Dundee will do well to keep them at bay. Dundee were left chastened by the 7-1 pasting back in February, with the champions six to the good before the half time oranges were dished out.

Celtic: Schmeichel, Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Taylor, McCowan, Bernardo, Engels, Yang, Kyogo, Palma. Subs: Sinasalo, Johnston, Scales, Valle, Maeda, Hatate, Forrest, Welsh, Turley.

Dundee: McCracken, Ingram, C. Robertson, Astley, Mulligan Cameron, Murray, F. Robertson, Larkeche, Sylla, Portales. Subs: Sharp, McGhee, Main, Adewumi, Koumetio, Braybrooke, Palmer-Houlden, Vetro.

We’ll have all action, reaction and analysis right here in our LIVE blog.

DUNDEE SUB

Braybrooke replaces Cameron for Dee for the final five minutes or so.

21:28Daniel Caw

Dundee have woken up...

The visitors appear to have woken up a bit, and have a lot more urgency in their play in the last few minutes.

Both Trusty and Johnston are forced into decent blocks, with Tony Docherty's side refusing to concede defeat just yet.

21:26Daniel Caw

Trusty's strength

Dundee try to launch a counter-attack, with Palmer-Houlden shaping to get a shot away on his right-foot, only for Auston Trusty to comfortably relieve him of possession. Excellent defending.

21:21Daniel Caw

CELTIC SUB

Cameron Carter-Vickers' night is over, he's replaced in the 75th minute by Liam Scales, with Alistair Johnston taking the captain's armband.

21:17Daniel Caw

Rare Dundee attack

Ingram's deep cross is a good one, and it looks to cause the Hoops defence trouble, but Carter-Vickers just gets his head to it first and clears.

21:11KEY EVENT

GOAL! Celtic 2-0 Dundee

Celtic celebrate

The Hoops double their lead from the penalty spot through Arne Engles!

It was Engles' excellent play in the build-up that led to the foul on Kyogo, and he coolly slots the ball beyond a helpless McCracken.

21:10KEY EVENT

PENALTY CELTIC!

Kyogo is pulled to the ground by Portales and Celtic have a spot-kick! Great work from Engles in the build-up too....

SUB FOR CELTIC

Yang's evening comes to a close just after the hour mark, having done really well to set up Johnston's goal.

James Forrest comes on to replace him.

21:06KEY EVENT

GOAL! Celtic 1-0 Dundee

The Hoops take the lead!

He's just been on the pitch for a matter of minutes by it's Alistair Johnston who break the deadlock with a really slick finish.

21:02KEY EVENT

TRIPLE SUB FOR CELTIC

Rodgers makes his first changes of the night, with Johnston, Maeda and Hatate all coming on, with Ralston, Bernardo and Palma all making way.

Rodgers gave it just 10 minutes into the second-half before rolling the dice - he obviously wasn't particularly enthralled with what he was watching.

21:01Daniel Caw

Slack passes galore...

Brendan Rodgers will be livid with the last few minutes of action, with several of his players cheaply giving away possession.

It's been a theme of Celtic night so far!

20:56Daniel Caw

HUGE CELTIC CHANCE!

McCracken pulls off an amazing save to deny Kyogo from point blank range!

I have no idea how Kyogo didn't find the net there - he should have a hat-trick by now!

20:55Daniel Caw

Palma goes close...

Luis Palma continues his quest for a goal, and his curling effort has McCracken at full stretch.

A nice effort but, in truth, one the goalie should've saved pretty easily.

20:54Daniel Caw

Brilliant Bernardo

I mentioned earlier but Paulo Bernardo is putting in a really strong display in midfield tonight, and he looks like he's barely out of second gear. A lovely player to watch.

20:53Daniel Caw

More urgency immediately...

A much brighter and more urgent start to the second-half by Celtic.

You can already see more enegry and speed in the opening stages.

But we still await the opening goal!

20:49Daniel Caw

RESTART! Celtic 0-0 Dundee

Yang is inches away

We're back up and running at Celtic Park!

20:33KEY EVENT

HALF-TIME - CELTIC 0-0 DUNDEE

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 30: Kyogo Furuhashi of Celtic runs with the ball under pressure from Juan Antonio Portales of Dundee FC during the William Hill Premiership match between Celtic FC and Dundee FC at Celtic Park on October 30, 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)

The Hoops have dominated, as you'd expect, and have had three excellent opportunites, with Kyogo somehow squandering the best of the lot.

It remains goalless at the break and plenty of food for thought for Brendan Rodgers.

BIG CHANCE FOR YANG

Luis Palma delivers a tempting cross to the back-post, and Yang shows good aggression to get to it first, but his effort is stopped by McCracken.

20:20Daniel Caw

Huffing and puffing...

The Hoops continue to probe and recycle the ball quickly but they're yet to blow Dundee's house down.

A touch more urgency might be required to break the deadlock at Celtic Park.

20:19Daniel Caw

Bernardo showing his class

Paulo Bernardo has adopted the midfield holding role tonight in the absence of Callum McGregor, and he's put in a typically strong performance so far.

It still beggars belief that a player of such quality and potential cost just £3.5million - not that Brendan Rodgers will be complaining!

20:13Daniel Caw

Chance for Engles

Engles finds himself in space in the penalty area following a lovely through-ball by Luis Palma, but he sees his fierce effort blocked by Portales.

The Hoops are getting closer!

20:10Daniel Caw

Palma knocking at the door...

Luis Palma again fires a shot at goal but if flies high and wide of McCracken's goal.

He's definitely keen but yet to find the quality to really trouble Dundee too much.

20:09Daniel Caw

Patience is crucial...

Dundee are holding their own, and are well organised in front of McCracken's goal.

Brendan Rodgers' side are dominating but they'll need a bit more patience if they're to find the opening goal.

20:05Daniel Caw

Positive start from Palma

Luis Palma has been handed a start tonight, with Diazen Maeda on the bench, and he looks keen to prove his worth to Brendan Rodgers.

A couple of his crosses have been slightly wayward, but he's constantly taking on his man and getting to the by-line.

20:01Daniel Caw

Slowly turning the screw...

As you'd probably expect, Celtic are starting to completely dominate possession, with the visitors starting to retreat towards their own goal.

Tony Docherty and his players will probably still be in slight shock that Kyogo missed not only one but TWO excellent opportunites so far.

19:55Daniel Caw

Taylor and Ralston central to plans...

Both Celtic full-backs are adopting an early central position, which is causing no end of problems for Dundee's midfield.

Both Ralston and Taylor are like extra central midfielders when on the ball.

19:54Daniel Caw

KYOGO SITTER!

Engles sets up Kyogo, who somehow puts it wide front point-blank range!

Two gilt-edged chances for Kyogo in the opening 7 minutes but, uncharacteristically, he's yet to find the net.

Another big let-off for Dee.

19:51Daniel Caw

BIG CHANCE FOR KYOGO

The Japanese striker latches onto a brilliant ball from Ralston, controls is on his chest, but is denied by Dundee goalie McCracken's legs. First sight of goal for the Hoops.

19:49Daniel Caw

Wonderful save from Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel

The Celtic goalie is called into action in the opening moments, as he is forced to palm away an effort from Portales that was destined for the bottom corner. Strong start from the visitors.
