Chelsea suffered another setback in their erratic season on Saturday when they were held to a 2-2 home draw by 10-man Burnley who remain deep in Premier League relegation trouble.
Mauricio Pochettino’s expensively-assembled side looked to be in the driving seat when Burnley‘s Lorenz Assignon was shown a second yellow card for bringing down Mykhailo Mudryk and top-scorer Cole Palmer converted the resulting penalty in the 44th minute.
But Josh Cullen stunned Stamford Bridge by scoring two minutes into the second half with a fine shot from outside the box.
Chelsea struggled to make their numerical advantage count before restoring their lead in the 78th minute when Palmer scored again, this time with a low shot. Burnley were level again three minutes later, however, when Dara O’Shea headed home from a corner.
The draw left Chelsea in 11th place in the table while Burnley are 19th, four points behind 17-placed Nottingham Forest.
Ten-man Burnley come from behind twice to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea. The Blues dominated the first half, and Disasi had a goal ruled out by VAR for handball before Palmer gave them the lead. Mudryk was brought down in the box by Assignon, and the referee pointed to the spot before sending the Frenchman off for his second booking, which was quickly followed by a red card for Kompany for dissent. Palmer scored a wonderful Panenka to put them in front, but Burnley pulled level just two minutes after the break through Cullen's long-range strike. Muric made vital saves to keep his side in it before Palmer got his second of the game with a filled finish, but just three minutes later, O'Shea thumped in an equaliser. Sterling missed a sitter, while Rodriguez struck the bar as both teams searched for a winner, but there was nothing to split the sides. Chelsea went off to boos from the home fans and now turn their attention to Manchester United on Thursday as they stay in 11th. Burnley are still 19th but are now four points from safety. Cullen can only delay the Chelsea attack when it gets caught under his feet, but the Blues win it back before spreading it to Madueke on the right. Taylor stands his ground to give away a corner, but Burnley just about clear their lines.
Esteve does dawdle over a free-kick, and he's booked for time-wasting.
We're into the first of five additional minutes here, and Muric is trying to take his team over a clearance. He knows he can't take too long, and when he does throw it upfield, Rodriguez wins a free-kick.
It's end-to-end at the minute as both sides push for a winner late on here. Palmer, unsurprisingly, is at the centre of it all for Chelsea again, but when he slides it forward for Madueke, Muric reacts quickest to cut out the pass.
OFF THE BAR! Chelsea are all over the place during another Burnley corner, and Rodriguez rises high above everybody to thump a header on goal. Petrovic is beaten, but it smacks the bar, and Rodriguez can only volley his follow-up effort well wide.

WHAT A MISS! Cullen is reluctant to close Palmer down, and he's able to pick out another wonderful cross. Sterling peels away from his defender to get a free header, and when it looks easier to score, he sends his header wide of the far post.
WIDE! Sterling switches it out to Madueke on the right of the box, and he drops a shoulder to lose Esteve. He drags at his shot though, and it rolls just wide of Muric's near post.
