Irish athletics star Ciara Mageean appeared on tonight's Late Late show and viewers loved every second.

Mageean has enjoyed a wonderful 2023 setting new Irish women's records in the 1,500m (twice!) the 800m and the one-mile. She also finished fourth in the 1,500m final at the World Championships in Budapest behind a nigh-on unbeatable trio of Faith Kipyegon, Diribe Welteji and Sifan Hassan.

Mageean opened up on her superb year and also paid tribute to her late coach Jerry Kiernan who tragically passed away last year.

Viewers of The Late Late Show were bowled over by her appearance and took to social media to express their delight.

One wrote: "Ciara Mageean is a fantastic ambassador for Northern Ireland. Great to see her getting some well deserved recognition. #latelateshow"

Another posted: "Delighted to see superstar Ciara Mageean on the show. What an athlete! Jerry Kiernan gets a well-deserved mention. #latelateshow"

Unfortunately Mageean wasn't given too much time to open up on her career so far as she appeared alongside actor James Nesbitt, model Vogue Williams and media personality Baz Ashmawy. Something that irked some viewers.

"Would have liked to have heard more from @ciaramageean, what a season she has had. Irish athletics as a whole this season even #latelate #latelateshow
