The singer-songwriter, whose full name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, released her first album If My Wife New I'd Be Dead in February 2022. It went straight to number one in the Irish Album Charts.

Stunning the Glastonbury crowds in a gold tasselled jacket, CMAT played guitar, sang her hit songs and wowed the audience, with new and old fans alike taking to social media to leave rave reviews of the Dublin singer.

"Possibly the best live performance I’ve ever witnessed. @cmatbaby at Glastonbury was a moment," said one Twitter user.

Another tweeter who had not listened to CMAT before said: "Love hearing new artists at Glastonbury. This singer, CMAT, is brilliant," attaching a clip of CMAT singing her hit song I Wanna Be a Cowboy, Baby!, which was broadcast on BBC.

"Another great Irish performance at Glastonbury. CMAT belting it out in an acoustic set for the BBC. Stunning," said another user.

"CMAT what a voice," said another fan.

CMAT herself thanked the crowd and her fans for their support during her set.

Often heralded as Ireland's answer to Dolly Parton, but a bit more pop, 27 year old CMAT is quickly growing a large Irish and international fanbase.

Her powerhouse voice and quirky personality, along with her entertaining and theatrical on-stage performances, have proved popular with audiences and music critics alike.

She previously told NME that she wanted her songs to sound like "the Nolans making that record with Glen Campbell, which would go on to be covered by Paris Hilton."

She began writing songs at 12 and after she dropped out of Trinity College, she moved to Manchester to try and make it big in the music world, previously saying London was too expensive.

During that time she attend a songwriting workshop by pop icon Charli XCX, giving her feedback on her latest music. Afterwards, Charli XCX gave CMAT some harsh but sage advice.

“She was like, ‘you need to sort yourself out… You seem like you’re really good at music. But you don’t know what you’re doing right now. You need to figure that out. You need to move back home, or you need to move to London. Why would you stay in Manchester? You don’t know anyone there’," CMAT told the Irish Examiner.

"And I was like, ‘I have to go home… I have to go home’. It was immediate. I have to blow my life up because Charli XCX told me to. It was the best thing I ever did. It was the best advice I ever received.”

Her debut album If My Wife New I'd Be Dead, which contained songs which were equal parts heart-breaking and funny, won the Choice Music Prize for Album Of The Year in March.

Her second album, Crazymad, For Me, will be released on the 13th of October.
