The "environmental" protest began early in the second set when Gauff was up 6-4, 1-0 at 8:05 p.m. ET. After 10 minutes, the players left the court.

An X clip reveals the protestors were chanting "end fossil fuels."

A male climate activist caused a verbal disturbance and glued himself to the cement floor in section 313, Senior police sources with the NYPD told NBC New York.

Law enforcement filled the section of the stands where the three protestors were. One protestor reportedly lingered but once he was removed, play resumed.
