Ballina Rugby's Deirdre Whyte has been appointed as 'Womens Rugby Lead for Club and Community' by Connacht Rugby. The woman who set up Girls Rugbby in Ballina some years ago has been the driving force behind the development of the female club game across the province and that has now been recognised in an official capacity.

The appointment of their former club president to the new role has been greeted with great delight at Ballina RFC and a number of club officials have already marked the historic news on the club's website.

"Years of tireless work have now been rewarded," Club President Ed Gunning stated.
"Connacht are blessed and fortunate to have acquired a truly dedicated follower of rugby. Well done to our esteemed past-president," former Ballina RFC President Adrian Bourke added.
"So well-deserved. Many hours of work and effort put in to getting the female rugby in Ballina RFC off the ground. Lovely to see such dedication being recognised," commented another former Club President, Marc Loftus.
