Irishman 'fighting for his life' in Australia after falling into coma
An Irishman living in Australia is fighting for his life after he fell into a coma.
Conor Molloy, from Gilford in Co Down, has been living in Australia for the last number of years, where he is currently in hospital.
His parents and brother are understood to have flown out to be by his side, while local boxing club Gilford Boxing Club have set a GoFundMe to help the family with their financial burden following Conor’s hospitalisation.
‘Unfortunately Gilford lad Conor Molloy is fighting for his life out in Australia… family have had to fly out to be at his bedside,’ the club wrote on Facebook. ‘Can we help make things a little bit easier financially. Together as a village and as a district.’
The GoFundMe has since raised over £34,000 (€41,000), with the club writing: ‘Everyone at Gilford ABC and in the Gilford community and surrounding areas would like to offer our thoughts and prayers for the Molloy family. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and will be forwarded to family to help with the considerable costs.

Tullyish GAA Club in Co Down, where Conor was a member, also shared the GoFundMe, where they shared their support for Conor. Meanwhile, local MP Carla Lockhart said that the young man is facing ‘unimaginable challenges’ following his hospitalisation.
‘I am reaching out to our community to ask for support for Connor Molloy, a young man from our constituency (Gilford), who is fighting for his life in Australia,’ Ms Lockhart wrote. ‘Conor’s family needs our help. Every donation—no matter the amount—will help ease the financial strain on his loved ones, allowing them to focus on supporting Conor in his fight to recover.
‘I encourage anyone who is able to contribute to please consider donating. Let’s come together as a community to show Conor and his family that they are not alone.’
