Bosses are reportedly killing off Les Battersby after almost three decades since he first arrived in Weatherfield. Actor Bruce Jones first appeared on our screens as Les in 1997 alongside his wife Janice (Vicky Entwistle) his daughter Leanne (Jane Danson) and stepdaughter Toyah (Georgia Taylor).

Bruce played the cabbie for 10 years and soon became a fan favourite. However, his daughter Leanne soon receives a call in new scenes, telling her that her dad is dead and has to break the news to sister Toyah, Plymouth Live reports.

A source told The Sun : "It's a huge snub to kill off a popular character like this. Bruce created one of the Street’s most iconic characters in Les and always hoped one day he might return.

"A lot of the cast and crew have said it’s a bit mean. It's also bound to infuriate long-term fans who remember Les with great fondness." A Coronation Street spokeswoman said: “We don’t comment on future storylines.”

Speaking last year, Bruce, said: "Les is a legend. I’m so proud of him." In February, the soap legend made his wrestling debut.

Friday's episode (October 18) mentioned a dig at his new career, with Leanne and Toyah discussing their father being "drunk at the wrestling". Janice and Les had an infamous split when Janice found a new love in Dennie Stringer (Charles Dale) and Les also formed a new relationship with Cilla Brown (Wendi Peters).

It was reported that Bruce had left following claims he allegedly got drunk with an undercover journalist, revealing future storylines, and making inappropriate comments, according to the Mirror.
