The Droichead Arts Centre has a host of amazing events for Culture Night on Friday September 20th.

The events are free but booking is advisable for some of the more popular evenings.

Culture Night; Night Moves is a late night programme produced by Droichead Arts Centre in partnership with the Drogheda Night Time Economy Advisor, and supported by the Arts Council, Louth Arts Office and Love Drogheda BIDS celebrating Culture Night 2024. Collaborating with curators; musician/ composer, SJ McArdle, visual arts curator Brian Hegarty/33-45, Drogheda Classical Music Series and Boyne Trad Fest. Aligned with the Late-Night Events strategy, this dynamic programme is designed to build on the success of the recent NIGHT Moves Programme & will further provide new & engaging night time cultural experiences in Drogheda from 10pm - 12.15am across public & shared spaces, whilst supporting artists and creatives. Starting at Droichead Arts Centre, Barlow House on Narrow West Street and Opening for Night Moves, Culture Night’, thirtythree-45 in association with Droichead arts Centre present 'The Kiosk’ ,a new pop-up gallery and project space.

The Kiosk officially opens on 'Culture Night 2024' with the exhibition 'PAUSE', a mini retrospective showcasing eight years of thirtythree-45, artist Brian Hegarty’s not for profit arts initiative that runs independently, in partnership and in collaboration.

Leading on from the ‘Kiosk’ to Barlow House, 8 Fold Artist Studios will host a group exhibition featuring work from Vivienne Byrne, Rodney Thornton, Dee Walsh, Nuala Early, Brian Hegarty and Kieran McNulty.

Across Narrow West St. our visual arts trail continues featuring the film Vernacular Dreamscapes: Nocturnal Dream Disposal, an amorphous, psychedelic dream journey, blending AI and studio staged techniques by renowned German artist and musician Marc Richter. More of Marc's work will be seen on Narrow West Street leading into selected atmospheric photography using 'light and shadow' of local photographer Cathal Carolan.

Mural artist Darrin Finnegan, will create a new work on the shutters of the Abbey Shopping Centre before we pick up again with Cathal Carolan's photography project at the old Choice Building.

Night Moves; Late Night Cafe is featuring opera, classical music and poetry, in partnership with Drogheda Classical Music Series will take place across three well loved cafes/restaurants across Drogheda. The Coffee Box on Georges St will feature flautist Vourneen Ryan and musicians The Carolan Brothers, while Il Forno on West St will host opera singers Gavan Ring and Seán Tester. The Leyland Café on Wellington Quay will welcome poets Dani Gill, Dagogo Harte with Drogheda Creative Writers and musicians The Carolan Brothers.

Night Moves: Trad Trail in partnership with Boyne Trad Fest:

A series of free traditional late night music sessions across bars/venues in Drogheda including: The Punt featuring Tradify with Drogheda’s very own Darragh O’Heiligh, combining the bold rhythm of the Bouzouki, the mesmerizing harmonies of the whistle, and the powerful presence of uilleann pipes; the Hole in the Wall, featuring Paddy Callahan (button accordion) & Shane McCartan (guitar); Clarkes Bar, featuring James McCaffrey (flute) & Mickey Curran (button accordion); The Mariner where Louth fiddler, composer and singer Róisín Ward Morrow will join forces with frequent collaborator Breifne Holohan (guitar, bouzouki); McHughs, featuring Fleadh Cheoil's 2023 Senior Duet Champions Ciara Tighe (button accordion) and Áine Murphy (fiddle), Jane Walls (uilleann pipes) & Cara Walls (harp), and Barney Macs featuring FARÓ, an Irish music collective which celebrates Irish music and brings its language and melody to life. They will be joined on the night by Drogheda based contemporary Irish folk artist SJ McArdle, known for his PORT project and his previous work in award-winning Irish folk band Kern.
