Culture Night

20 Sept 2024 12:56 PM

Kilkenny will play host to a fantastic line-up of events this evening to celebrate Culture Night with free events taking place in the city and county.

This evening Irish history podcaster, Fin Dwyer will host a talk on the powerhouse that was Alice Kyteler at The Parade Tower from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

One of tonight's highlights promises to be live entertainment at the Smithwick's Experience and Barrel Yard from 5pm to 7pm including performances by The Southern Fold and renowned guitarist, Elise. There will also be gourmet treats and beer pairings from food trucks.

Upstairs at the Chead Tine Gallery (upstairs in Dunnes Stores on Kieran Street) there will be an art tour and poetry reading- the gallery opens at 6pm and there will be a guided tour by the artist. Then at 7pm, there will be a poetry reading from four Kilkenny poets. There will also be finger food and refreshments. Booking is required (contact: [email protected]). It will held at the An Chead Tine Art Gallery, mezzanine floor, Dunnes Stores, Kierens Street, from 6pm to 8pm.

There will also be a late night opening of Kilkenny Castle - the period rooms sand exhibitions are open to the public free of charge from 6pm to 9pm (the last admission is at 8.30pm).

Another event well worth catching is Fern Kealy’s play, “Is the world still my Oyster?”- a short play meditating on the role of the artist,  told from the perspective of a struggling artist’s inner monologue. It will be held in the Home Rule Club, Johns Quay, from 7.15pm to 20.15pm.

There will also be a classical music evening by master guitarist Thierry Fouet. It will be held from 6pm to 7pm (R95 KCF1).
