Bayern’s De Ligt a target for Man Utd

Manchester United want to sign Matthijs de Ligt after failing with their first bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Mirror believes that De Ligt, who worked with their current manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, could be an alternative.

The paper writes: “Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Bayern Munich's £55 million-rated defender Matthijs de Ligt.

“United boss Erk ten Hag worked with De Ligt at Ajax and wants to be reunited with the 24-year-old Netherlands centre-back at Old Trafford. It is understood United are willing to offer De Ligt - who only made 16 Bundesliga starts for Bayern last season - a five-year deal to relaunch his career in the Premier League.

“De Ligt has three years left on his current deal and has emerged as a target for United after Everton refused to lower their £70m asking price for England centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

“United made an initial offer of £35m plus £8m in add-ons for Branthwaite, but Everton are refusing to compromise over their valuation of the 22-year-old.”

Wolves close to Strand Larsen deal

Wolverhampton Wanderers hope to sign Celta Vigo striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, in a deal that will initially begin on loan.

The Sun explains that the transfer will then become permanent at the end of the year-long loan spell, for £23 million.

The paper writes: “Wolves are closing in on a deal to sign Celta Vigo striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

“The Norway ace, who can also play on the wing, is set to join on loan for an initial £3 million and will have a medical tomorrow.

“The deal can be made permanent next summer for a further £23m.

“Larsen, 24, attracted interest from Prem and Serie A clubs after scoring 13 goals last season.

“But Wolves have moved into pole position after opening talks with the striker’s representatives.”

Burnley could two lose goalkeepers

Aro Muric and James Trafford could both be set for moves to the Premier League after Burnley’s relegation.

Muric impressed in the place of Trafford towards the end of last season, while Trafford is also a wanted man.

The Daily Mail reports: “Several Premier League clubs have registered an interest in Burnley's Aro Muric, with the Kosovan expected to leave Turf Moor this summer.

“Teams abroad are also following the goalkeeper’s situation and Muric wants to go in as a No. 1.

“The 24-year-old impressed when taking over from James Trafford towards the end of Burnley’s fight against relegation from the Premier League.

“Burnley have also fielded interest in Trafford, with Newcastle United among those having looked at the England Under-21 stopper.”

Sessegnon trains at Palace

Crystal Palace are exploring a deal to sign Ryan Sessegnon after he left Tottenham to become a free transfer.

The 24-year-old has struggled with injury but impressed Palace manager Oliver Glasner when he was on loan at Hoffenheim.

The Athletic writes: “Ryan Sessegnon is training at Crystal Palace with a view to joining the club as a free agent.

“Talks between the 24-year-old left wing-back and Palace are ongoing as the Selhurst Park side look to steal a march on other suitors.

“Sessegnon was released by Tottenham Hotspur when his contract expired at the end of last season and is close to regaining full fitness after surgery on a hamstring injury.

“The former England Under-21 international comes from south London and has been liked by Palace manager Oliver Glasner since a loan spell at Hoffenheim in the 2020-21 campaign. Sessegnon would provide competition for Tyrick Mitchell at the left wing-back spot in Glasner's 3-4-2-1 system.”
