The pair shot a combined score of 60 and 63 for the first two days at the Old Course in St Andrews and then Carnoustie Links, before hitting 58 at Kingsbarns and then 59 on their return to the Old Course.

It was Desmond's second win in the event after coming out on top in the 2010 edition with Sweden's Robert Karlsson.

The Celtic majority shareholder's three sons were all competing too but Dery could only finish tied 25th with Simon Forsstrom, Robert ended tied 60th with Ivan Cantero and Brett finished bottom of the pile tied 127th with Seb Garcia.

It was Dermot who ended Sunday's final round with the bragging rights in the family.

Speaking after his win, he said: “It's fantastic. I really enjoy playing with Thorbjørn and they are wonderful golf courses, great sponsor, and with my sons here, what can be better.”

England's Tyrrell Hatton was pipped by Desmond senior and was denied making it a double at St Andrews after he secured his third title in the pro event - finishing second in the Pro-Am with his father Jeff.

Oban golfer Robert MacIntyre finished the team event tied 11th with his father Dougie.

Former Tottenham and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale also had a promising weekend out on the courses as he ended the weekend tied 15th with Dan Brown.

But the biggest highlight from his four rounds wasn't actually him playing.

In fact, the hilarious moment that caught everyone's attention was when he had his ball snatched from the green at Carnoustie by a local dog as he was making his way over to sink his putt.

It didn't sidetrack him too much on Saturday though as he still ended the day on 19 under with his partner.

They finished with a combined score of -35 -- 143 shots behind Desmond senior and Oleson.

The retired football legend was tied with Hollywood icon Bill Murray and his team-mate Jordan Smith.

Meanwhile, Hoops powerbroker Desmond was quizzed on the club after winning the event.

Giving his verdict on Brendan Rodgers' team in the Champions League so far this season, he told BBC Scotland: "I would like to see some good results, home results and maybe nick a point or two away.

"I think we have done exceptionally well so far. It's interesting to play eight different teams, four at home and four away with all different rankings. I think it makes it exciting for the club, the supporters and people generally."

On the dramatic 2-1 win over Ross County, he continued: "I am very pleased. I think we have played good football. We had a good start and could have played bad football, but we have played very good and exciting football.

"Unfortunately we weren't at our best on Tuesday. But, I like what we are doing, what Brendan is doing and I think we have a good squad."
