Kevin Stefanski has verified that Deshaun Watson's decision to leave the field during the fourth down was not against his wishes, but rather a response to the Cleveland Browns' offence having too many players on the pitch.

The Browns would have faced a penalty if they had proceeded with the play, and while there might have been enough time to remove a player from the field, the correct formation for the necessary play was not in place due to Watson's departure to allow the special teams to attempt a field goal.

The Browns were trailing by three scores to the Washington Commanders in the third quarter on 4th and goal, and needed a touchdown to make a comeback.

However, in a puzzling move, Watson left the field, seemingly angering his head coach who removed his headset and continued to express his frustration. Social media users speculated that Watson had essentially given up on the team.

But his head coach has clarified that this was not the case. Stefanski informed reporters: "We had the wrong amount of people in the huddle, and then at that point, we were just going to kick the field goal. Obviously we had penalties and some miscommunications which are completely on me. I'll take responsibility for all of that. That looks like losing football to me, I'll get it fixed."

Stefanski, commenting on having 12 men on the field, expressed his frustration: "It is really frustrating, we will get that fixed. Before we beat anybody (else), you have to stop beating yourself... we need to play better as an offense, we need to coach better as an offense.'".

Watson remains confident in the team's ability to go on a winning streak, but recognises the need to stop making self-inflicted errors - a point of criticism for many.

Speaking to reporters, he said: "We shoot ourselves in the foot. It is tough. The offense is going to go as far as I go... so, at the end of the day, we're not doing enough offensively. We have got to figure it out quickly.

"We had too many men in the huddle (on that play) and that was it. We just have got to lock in, that's all I can say right now."

The Browns suffered a significant defeat at the hands of the Commanders, dropping to 1-4, with their quarterback underperforming this season and fans calling for him to be benched.
