Deshaun Watson storms off field in rage at Cleveland Browns ...

Tensions seem to be reaching a boiling point in Cleveland after Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson had a heated exchange with head coach Kevin Stefanski.

The Browns' offensive struggles were epitomised by a chaotic drive that occurred with just under 15 minutes left in the third quarter of Sunday's game.

After Cleveland's defence forced its second turnover of the match, Watson took possession of the ball at the Washington Commanders' 30-yard line, trailing 24-6.

After a 19-yard completion to wide receiver Amari Cooper, the Browns found themselves with a first and goal at the two-yard line. However, any momentum that Cleveland had built was quickly lost after its offence committed a false start, conceded a sack, and threw two incomplete passes.

Before the crucial fourth and goal down, Watson angered fans by appearing to leave the field despite his coach wanting to run a play. Stefanski did little to hide his frustration following the miscommunication, dropping his hands to his knees and angrily removing his headset from his head.

Browns fans took to social media in droves, lambasting quarterback Deshaun Watson for what seemed to be a lack of commitment. An irate fan posted on Twitter: "Kevin Stefanski wanted to go for it on 4th down. Deshaun Watson proceeds to quit on his team and walk off the field," while another commented: "He's a broken man. Think it'd be better to just bench him now."

Yet, further scrutiny of the day's events from another FOX broadcast angle revealed the truth behind the fumbled play. It became clear that Watson, as he rounded up his mates for the drive, spotted too many Browns players on the line.

Deciding against using Cleveland's precious second timeout in the mere third quarter, the 29 year old knowingly strode to the sidelines to confer with Stefanski and his coaching staff.

This odd episode was among various missteps contributing to the Browns' sorry 34-13 loss. Watson ended the game having successfully completed 15 out of 28 passes, throwing 125 yards, achieving a single touchdown, and avoiding interceptions, whilst being taken down seven times by the Commanders' formidable defence.

In charge for a disappointing 1-4 start to the season, Watson has yet to shine brightly at the helm of the Browns. Throughout the initial five matches, he has racked up 852 yards via air, five touchdowns, and three picks, along with collecting 131 yards on the ground across 25 carries.

Stefanski firmly stated that despite a less than stellar start to the year, there are no current plans to switch up the quarterback position in Cleveland. "We need to play better, I need to coach better, and that's really what it is," he conveyed to journalists following Sunday's game.

The length of patience for Watson, should his difficulties continue, is yet to be determined by the team. The Browns have a tough road ahead to salvage their season as they face strong opponents, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, and Baltimore Ravens in the upcoming three weeks.
