Oscar-winner Jane Fonda, who starred in the 1971 thriller Klute opposite Donald Sutherland, led tributes to her former castmate. 

Tributes have started to pour in for Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, who died in Miami on Thursday at the age of 88 following a long illness.

Sutherland’s death has been confirmed by his son Kiefer Sutherland. “With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” he wrote on X.

Several famous faces flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their tributes as Piers Morgan penned: "RIP Donald Sutherland, 88. One of my all-time favourite actors who played so many great roles. What a sad loss."

Jeremy Vine expressed: "Incredible actor. Thoughts with his nearest and dearest," while Sharon Osbourne took to her Instagram stories to write: "rest in peace #donaldsutherland."

Ulrika Jonsson said: "Oh, I adored you so much. Enough to name my youngest after the character you played in Dirty, Sexy, Money: Tripp Darling #donaldsutherland."

Donald's Disclosure co-star Michael Douglas shared a picture of the two on the sets of the 1994 thriller film and gushed: "What a lovely, talented, and curious man.

Reverend Richard Coles wrote: "The other day I happened to talk to someone who worked with #DonaldSutherland - may his memory be a blessing - who told me he never recovered from being told when he was such a young actor that he was too ugly for Hollywood. Absolutely not. And such a talent!"
