Cyclist, 70s, dies in collision in Dublin city centre

A man in his 70s has died following a collision between a car and a bicycle in Dublin City. 

Gardaí and emergency services personnel attended the scene of the incident, which happened on Dame St in the city centre at approximately 5.25am on Saturday.

A cyclist, a man in his 70s, was seriously injured during the collision. He was subsequently taken to St James' Hospital where he has since passed away.

The driver of the car involved is currently undergoing treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Dame St was closed for a time on Saturday morning to facilitate a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, but it has since reopened.

Gardaí at Pearse Street Garda Station have issued an appeal for witnesses. 

Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Dame Street this morning between 5.00am and 5.45am have been asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
