Dunnes Stores has issued a recall on two popular items with just over a week to go until Christmas.
The Irish retailer has recalled a pair of cheese products after concerns emerged over the presence of Listeria. A number of batches of Beechwood Smoked and Tomato and Herb Wicklow cheddar have been flagged as potentially containing traces of Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria is a foodborne bacteria which can cause serious intestinal illness, which can pose a serious risk to elderly adults, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland released a statement saying: "Dunnes Stores is recalling the below batches of its Beechwood Smoked and Tomato and Herb Wicklow Cheddar due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes."
The affected products are the Beechwood Smoked cheddar with batch code 24182 and a use-by date 28/02/2025, and the Tomato and Herb cheddar with batch code 24302 and 09/02/2025.
Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes include flu-like symptoms as well as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. According to the FSAI, "in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly."
Customers who may have purchased from the affected batches are being urged not to consume any.
Boots has also issued a product recall for a popular Christmas gift set. The Radley Cosy Up mug and sock set has been recalled by the company due to fears that the base of the mug could crack while it has hot liquid in it.
If you've bought the gift set, it's recommended that you return it to your nearest Boots store as soon as possible.
