Trump nominates Edward Walsh as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated New Jersey's Edward Walsh as the next United States Ambassador to Ireland.
If confirmed by the Senate, Walsh will succeed current ambassador Claire Cronin of Massachusetts.
Mr. Walsh is president of the Walsh Company, a construction company based in the Garden State.
Trump, in a statement announcing the decision, described Walsh as a “great philanthropist in his local community” and a former chairman of a state school development board.

“He is also a champion golfer, said Trump, noting that such a skill would be a great asset for the ambassador to Ireland.
The 45th and future 47th president owns the Doonbeg course in County Clare. Mr. Walsh is a member of the Trump course in Bedminster, New Jersey and is a two times winner of the club championship.
According to New Jersey Globe, Walsh served as chairman of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority from 2010 to 2018 during Chris Christie’s two terms as governor. Walsh supported Christie for president in 2016, but not in 2024.
When Trump sought re-election in 2020, Walsh was a delegate to the Republican National Convention.
Walsh is the founder of The Walsh Company, Walsh Environmental Solutions, and Walsh PoE Lighting. He is a former treasurer of the New Jersey chapter of the National Association of Industrial Office Parks.
