Young Lionesses top EURO 2025 qualifying Round 1 group despite conceding late in entertaining draw

England women's under-17s sealed first place in Group A3 in Round 1 of EURO 2025 qualifying despite conceding a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands at St George's Park.

Jessica Anderson broke the deadlock in the first half and an own goal doubled the lead just before the break, before a Rochelity Dap brace secured a point for the visitors in the second period.

The Dutch had the first effort of the game, forcing Silvana Marshall Miranda into a save but it didn't take long for England to hit the front.

Jessica Anderson continued her fine form in front of goal, adding to her hat-trick against Faroe Islands last Monday and strike versus Czechia on Thursday with another goal to open the scoring.

John Salomon's side pushed for a second and Lois Shooter forced a save after 28 minutes before the hosts did increase their advantage just before half-time. Anderson was involved again, earning an assist for an own goal by midfielder Maud Koster.

Netherlands hit back just after the hour mark, Rochelity Dap scoring to cut the deficit and both sides continued to go close in an entertaining half.

It was the Dutch who did eventually score the game's fourth goal to earn a draw, though, with Dap notching again in added time.

Having topped their group, the Young Lionesses will now progress to the next stage of qualifying for next year's tournament.
