Evan Ferguson is being linked with a "British record transfer" away from Brighton as Tottenham Hotspur look to sign a striker to replace Harry Kane.
England captain Kane completed his €115million move to Bayern Munich last week and made his debut in their 3-0 German Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Ex-Spurs striker Gary Lineker has urged his former club to sign Irish international Ferguson, who he described as "born goalscorer", to replace Kane.

He tweeted after the 18-year-old scored Brighton's final goal in their 4-1 win over Luton last weekend: " "Evan Ferguson scores in Fergie time. He’s a born goalscorer.
"If I was in charge of recruitment at Spurs I’d take a punt on him as Kane’s replacement. Apologies to Brighton fans."
Jamie Carragher was also full of praise for Ferguson after his performance against Luton, saying on the Gary Neville Podcast: "Evan Ferguson is the centre forward. You talk about Brighton bringing players into the club, through the ranks, and selling them on for big money.
"I'm sure he will be there for the next couple of years, but he looks the real deal every time I watch him. Don't forget, as a young player could you imagine the education he is getting from that manager [Roberto De Zerbi]?
"He looks like a top manager doesn’t he? You see the way the team plays, not necessarily with the best players in the world. The football they play, he is a manager now where a lot of teams are studying the way Brighton play and trying to implement that into their game. He is still new to the Premier League himself.
"I think that lad he has got up front, I think he's pretty special. He is only going to get better with him as his manager."
And Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy says Brighton believe Ferguson could be sold for a record fee in the future.
She tweeted: "Brighton's exceptional trading shows no signs of stopping. Club believe they already have the next British record transfer brewing in Evan Ferguson - and for good reason."
That tweet came as the Seagulls sold midfielder Moises Caicedo to Chelsea in a deal that could rise to €134million on Monday.
