Gardaí are investigating a fatal incident which happened today in a supermarket carpark in Fermoy Co Cork.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:15am this morning when two people were struck by a car.

One of the pedestrians, a man aged in his 90s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second person, a woman aged in her 60s, has been taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be serious.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 90s, also received medical attention at the scene.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "Any pedestrians who were travelling in the environs of Courthouse Road, Fermoy Town, between 10.45am and 11.30am on Friday October 18 2024 are asked to come forward.

"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in this area at these times are also asked to come forward."

EARLIER

Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident in Fermoy in which a man aged 90 has died.

It is understood that two pedestrians were seriously injured following a traffic incident that occurred at a supermarket this morning.

The pedestrians are believed to have been struck by car whilst walking in the carpark of SuperValu shortly after 11am.

One of the pedestrians, aged 90, has since died.

It is understood the driver of the vehicle may have suffered a medical episode.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance arrived at the supermarket carpark at round 11:30am.

Traffic on Courthouse Road is currently at a standstill and tailbacks in the town are expected to continue.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: "Gardaí are at the scene of an incident in Fermoy, Co. Cork, this afternoon, Friday 18th October 2024.

"No further information is available at this time."
