Donegal general election - Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher - Fianna Fáil
Fianna Fáil candidate Pat the Cope Gallagher is running after losing his seat in the last general election.
While on the campaign trail, he has outlined his key priorities saying he intends to tackle the cost of living crisis, housing shortages, and rental property scarcity.
He has ensured his commitment to improving health services, education facilities, and infrastructure.
As well as his aim to ensure that farming and fishing receive the government support they need.
In terms of the unfolding issues caused by defective blocks, Deputy Gallagher outlined his intention to deliver a defective concrete blocks scheme that “truly supports those affected”.
He has also stated the importance of supporting businesses, SMEs, tourism, and hospitality, including restoring the 9% VAT rate as well as investing in Gaeltacht and Island communities.
“I’m seeking your No. 1 vote on Polling Day to make a real difference for Donegal. Remember, your vote will count!”
Gallagher, a native of Burtonport, who was first elected as a TD in 1981, says representing his people is in his blood. He served as a Member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2002 and from 2009 to 2014, believes experience is vital at this time.
“I have the experience of representing this constituency both at national and European level and that is a massive advantage for this critical time,” he added. “I have the same drive, energy and tenacity now as I had when I first entered politics, but most importantly I have the desire and appetite to do the job.”
