BBC Tease Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special Storylines

The BBC have teased potential storylines for the upcoming Christmas special finale of Gavin & Stacey, five years on from its previous instalment.

Having previously aired between 2007 and 2010, Gavin & Stacey returned for a one off Christmas special in 2019, leaving on a cliff-hanger with Ruth Jones’ character Nessa proposing to one/off boyfriend Smithy, played by James Corden.

It has has yet to be confirmed if the couple do tie the knot.

On social media, the BBC shared an image of Gavin & Stacey titular stars Matthew Horne and Joanna Page, alongside Corden and Jones standing by a wall, echoing their first season image.

They said: “Join us on the journey to Barry and Billericay as we catch up with the Shipmans and the Wests for the very last time and maybe find out what exactly did happen on that fishing trip”. 

The BBC have said that the special is to show Gavin and Stacey “looking for new ways to spice up their 17-year marriage”, while Nessa embarks on a new business venture.

Other plots included Uncle Bryn getting ready for a trip to Essex from Barry Island, Wales in his Citroen Xsara Picasso. His sister-in-law Gwen West is to start “behaving most strangely”, and Neil the Baby is set to start an “apprenticeship with his dad”.

The special is to also show Gavin’s father Michael ‘Mick’ Shipman upsetting his uptight wife Pam Shipman, as she tries to play hostess.

Further marital issues for Peter Sutcliffe and wife Dawn Sutcliffe, are also on the horizon. The couple are played by Adrian Scarborough and Julia Davis.

This upcoming special Gavin & Stacey: The Finale, was written by James Corden and Ruth Jones, and will air on Christmas Day, with timings to be announced soon.
