Gavin and Stacey fans are in for a festive treat as the beloved series makes a comeback on Christmas Day, four years after its 2019 finale. While many from the BBC team hint that this holiday special might be a one-time event, with no full series revival on the horizon, creators Ruth Jones, 58, and James Corden, 46, have teased they've got one more trick up their sleeve.

The dynamic duo is set to release a novel titled 'When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between: A Story Of Love And Friendship' in autumn 2025, promising to delve into the journey of how their sitcom concept blossomed into a national treasure. The book will offer fans an exclusive peek at behind-the-scenes secrets and unheard anecdotes.

"We're so excited to be sharing the story behind the story of Gavin and Stacey," the pair expressed in a statement reported by OK!

They continued: "The show has played a huge part in our twenty-five-year friendship and we hope this book will give readers a fresh insight into how it all came about."

Gavin and Stacey fans might need to brace themselves as actor Adrian Scarborough, known for his role as Pete, has hinted that the beloved series may conclude with the upcoming Christmas special. On the Off the Telly podcast, he mentioned, "I like what they put at the end of the script - 'The End, forever and ever. Amen.' Also, I think it's really, really brave to finish things because often I just think things go on a little bit too long.", reports the Mirror.

He also expressed his support for fresh beginnings: "And I think with this, the best thing they could have done was just go, 'We've got an ending.' Endings are good, moving on and moving onto new projects, which hopefully we'll all be in."

While this may seem like a firm full stop to the series, Larry Lamb, who plays Mick Shipman, still promises excitement ahead. Talking about the Christmas Day episode, he revealed, "For all the people who have been watching religiously since the show started, you've got a trip coming up, I'll tell you that! " He continued to heighten anticipation by adding, "Everybody is going to get flipped and flipped again because it's so, so clever, what Ruth and James have done. Having spent a year keeping it all a secret, my big buzz will be watching my family watch it and seeing their reactions."

Larry teased that the upcoming plot twists will be truly unexpected, yet the BBC has disclosed a few key details. The network announced that the highly-anticipated episode will continue the story five years after the memorable Christmas special that concluded with Nessa, portrayed by Ruth, making a shocking proposal to Smithy, James's character.

The BBC tantalised viewers saying: "It's five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her. And a lot has happened in those five years."
