Golden Globe nominations 2025: Irish stars battle it out in best actor category but disappointment for Paul Mescal
Irish representation at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards is relatively modest, reflecting stiff competition in a year dominated by musical thrillers and historical epics.
While 2023 saw significant Irish success, this year’s nominations have yielded a more subdued outcome for Irish talent.
Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan were notably absent from the nominee list. Mescal’s portrayal in Gladiator and Ronan’s performances in The Outrun and Blitz failed to secure nods, a disappointment for fans and critics who had high hopes for the pair.

Among the films, Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez leads with 10 nominations, while Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist follows with seven.

While the Golden Globes offer a broader array of categories compared to the Oscars, this year’s outcome has left Irish cinema and television enthusiasts yearning for more.
For now, the spotlight shines on Scott and Farrell as they carry Irish hopes into awards night.
