Golfing star Shane Lowry had high praise for two Kerry courses and numerous towns in the county this week after he was asked on ‘The Smylie Show’ podcast to plan the perfect Ireland golf trip.

Appearing on the podcast on Wednesday, Shane told host Smylie Kaufman that after starting off his trip with rounds at both Portmarnock and Adare Manor, that he would then make his way to the Tralee Golf Links course which he could not speak more highly of.

"That course is incredible. It's Links and I think Arnold Palmer designed it. The back nine is one of the best nine holes of golf you'll ever play. It's just incredible. It's like Arnold Palmer arrived there and it was already there and just had to put him name to it,” he said.

After this, he highlighted Killarney as “a great town” for anyone wanting to stay in Kerry before he went on to dole out very high praise on Waterville as both a town and a place to play golf.

That [Killarney] is about an hour from a place called Waterville which has one of the best golf courses in the world. The Hogs Head Golf Club there, I've just joined there so I'm going to be spending a bit of time there over the years. I went with my friends on a golf trip last year and it's the most incredible place I've been to. The hospitality, the hotel, the way we got looked after, everything,” he said.

"Waterville is a lovely little town, it's got a couple of lovely restaurants and pubs and the people are great. I'll hopefully be spending a bit of time there before The Open," he added.
